Punching above their weight – Internships strike knockout blow on TV!

Oaklea’s Employment Team at R2W (Right2Work) have been busy showing off the success of our Internship programme on TV! The cameras from ITV Border have been showcasing students in West Cumbria who have been part of the Internships story. The project runs across the County in conjunction with all 4 FE Colleges.

The cameras rolled at The Powerhouse Gym, Whitehaven. Here the TV team met some of our our students like gym star Gary Austin, & Callum Crayston who is on placement at a different location (Bookers Wholesale, Workington). ITV Border also got a chance to meet the R2W job coaches who are responsible for supporting the young people in the workplace.

The Supported Internship programme is available throughout Cumbria, and currently the scheme has 11 students in work placements across the county. It employs a team of 9 job coaches and employment advisers. The current batch stretch back to September 2017 when the programme was rolled out across the colleges in Cumbria ( Furness, Lakes, Kendal and Carlisle). Students spent the next 6 weeks with their job coaches until November 2017 when they were finally let loose into the world of work!

Wall to wall TV for Callum!
