It’s been all go with our Supported Internship team in Furness (was ever thus I hear you cry…!)
Employment Advisor Claire Round is still picking herself up off the floor after exclaiming ” What a busy term we have had!”
In fact here’s Claire to explain why….
“It has been a little different for us on the SI scheme this year but we have managed to maintain a good range of activities and used many resources to ensure we are giving our learners the tools and developing their skills in preparation for their placements. We have supported our learners to build CV’s, write covering letters, develop teamwork skills, interview preparation, support communication skills and continue to complete activities to help prepare them to be ‘work ready’.
We’ve watched a video of Joe (see elsewhere on our website http://www.right2work.org.uk/supported-internships/ ) discussing his experiences of the SI programme. We’ve set goals and targets and looked at various workplaces, matching skills as well as considering the learners desirable outcomes.
Tasks have been used in-line with the development of these skills, learners have created presentations and presented them to the group, looked at problem solving and team work by using 2 materials to build a tower.
We have also been able, again, to access the FIT4WORK programme as its important to be fit and healthy, ready to work. Matthew came and gave a presentation on how to keep ourselves active.
All of the support given has looked a little different as we’ve taken steps in line with current guidance such as; we all have places to sit and work, a designated computer and wear appropriate PPE when working closely with each other.”
Great stuff team – we can’t help but notice you haven’t brought any Haribo goody bags back to HQ?…..(other sweets are available….)
10 mins later update – just had contact with Claire and she is one for detail and is at pains to add that they were Midget Gems……I think she still doesn’t get it! (but they’re still a fab and tasty team…..!)
